Wild Beasts – Mecca (SOHN Remix)

British indie-pop band Wild Beasts recently released the remixed version of their tune Mecca, an originally relaxed track with chilled vocals. However, it was handed over to SOHN to spice it up a bit, which he did perfectly. By adding major synth flair and a bit more percussion, he was able to make this song go from good to great. From the amplified chord progression to the fresh “sonic storms” he creates behind the vocals, his production dexterity is thoroughly demonstrated here. This track is catchy, smooth, and I suggest you take a listen.

Cashmere Cat – Kiss Kiss ($aturn Remix) [Free Download]

$aturn is an extremely talented producer from the US that is only 15 years old, who creates some extremely chill and enthralling sounds. His newest remix of Cashmere Cat’s track, “Kiss Kiss” embodies cheerfulness and emotion, and it really shows off the more energetic side to $aturn’s style of music creation. Enjoy.

Modeselektor – Modeselektion Vol. 3

They are the patron saints of underground clubbing music. The prolific duo, Modeselektor, have been at the forefront of electronic dance music for over a decade. Working out of Berlin, the creative think tank for EDM, Modeselektor has captured the attention of millions of fans and collaborated with many high profile musicians. A thriving friendship with Radiohead’s Thom York is just one example. Today their album Modeselektion Vol. 3 was officially released and it’s a beast of its own. Each track has a completely original style, but all fit together with Modeselektor’s desire to create a danceable club mix. The two sided disc features 19 tracks. Posted below are a few of my personal favorites. You can buy Modeselektion Vol. 3 here.

Gorgon City – Here For You ft. Laura Welsh (GRMM Remix)

GRMM, coming out of Sydney, Australia, brilliantly takes up this new Gorgon City track, making a great chill summer tune. He turns the sound around on this one, changing the pace of the song and adding more trance, nu disco, snare and reverb sounds underneath Laura Welsh’s meaningful vocals. This “Here For You” remix and GRMM’s artistry are both favorites of ours as he is definitely an artist to follow. Cheers.

EPISODE – Hold On (feat. Stefan Weiner)

Screen shot 2014-06-24 at 3.05.06 PM

I have no words. Yesterday, Episode the debuted their new track, “Hold On,” a clear stand out from the rest of their work (as if they haven’t impressed me enough already). “Hold On” features Stefan Weiner whose heavenly vocals have got me thinking of John Legend, Frank Ocean, James Blake, and Miguel. But mostly his voice just makes me think of butter…it is pure butter that I want to lather on everything. Equally as beautiful are the accompanying instrumentals; the music is romantic, dynamic, and rousing and the crew had some help on drums and production from producer Thelonious Martin who has worked with all-start artists like Chance the Rapper and Ab Soul. The lyrics are moving and speak of the struggles that come along with changing tides in a relationship but this is in no way a somber song. In fact, it’s electrifying; this is the kind of music that inspires you to fight for a losing relationship. I am blown away by the diverse and unique sounds Episode has been putting out, and with each release I have come closer to my own understanding of the groups’s name. For me, their songs are fittingly enough like episodes, each entirely different yet still part of a single identity. I don’t know if that has anything to do with their intention, but what I do know is that after these first three episodes I am dying to binge the whole season. Word has it that the group will be releasing their first EP, Hold On, in a few months. Is it too soon to say that it will be my favorite release of the summer? Definitely not.

The Hood Internet – Sock It 2 Summer (Missy Elliott x Blood Cultures)

The Hood Internet are a Chicago based mashup crew with a penchant for creating some really catchy tracks. For this one, they decided to splice some Missy Elliot into some Blood Cultures, and the combination is fantastic. From synth to snare drum this track bumps and invokes some feeling of euphoria in the listener. Turn the volume up and enjoy!

Snakehips – Days With You (ft Sinead Harnett)

Once again the UK production duo Snakehips has teamed up with the beautiful and talented Sinhead Harnett, this time under Snakehips name and as Harnett as a Feature to create an up beat love-jam. The collaboration follows on from their recent project for Harnett’s new single ‘No Other Way.’ This new jam is like a ray of sunshine that is perfect for those sunny summer days driving with the windows down. So check out the song, roll down the windows, turn up the volume,  hit the gas, and soak in the sunshine that is this new summer track.

ILLHOVA – Black Coffee

Wisconsin native ILLHOVA is an experimental, up-and-coming rapper. His smooth, lyrical tones create a sort of down to earth feel while keeping up rather high production quality. Each of his tracks tell a story about his life or his experiences, and each are unique while being threaded together by the alternative vibes. His latest release “Black Coffee” produces jazzy Amy Winehouse type undertones and that combined with his anomalous voice create a soothing and rich tune. His take on alternative hip-hop make him unique in the ever growing rap industry. I suggest you take a listen, and when you do you’ll see that a related artist is Big Sean, who I find to have a very similar voice to that of ILLHOVA’s. When I asked this artist about a previous song, he stated that “Each individual song I write has a different situation. This particular song I had to get things off my chest, and it’s kind of a reliever just expressing my thoughts through what I love doing. The motivation of me delivering my verse was elevated, because I had known before hand I was going to feature a artist named “RawRell” & he is  very talented, and upcoming rapper as well as me… & so of course I’m very competitive, music is a sport in my eyes, we all try to do our best to be the best.” (the song mentioned is here). All in all, this guy is really trying to make it big and I think that if you give him a chance you’d see that he’s extremely passionate and puts a tremendous amount of work into producing his music.
